The Church baptizes because Jesus Christ himself commanded it: "Go baptismtherefore, make disciples of all nations; baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." (Mat 28:1). Baptism is a sign of God's love for us and is the first step in a life-long journey of commitment and discipleship Through baptism, we symbolically enter into the mystery of Christ's death and resurrection, rising with Him to newness of life. Original sin (all sin) is wiped away and we become part of the family of God, filled with the grace of the spirit.

Parents who wish to have their children (infants) baptized are responsible for the education and rearing of their children as faithful members of the Catholic faith. Normally, baptisms are held the first Sunday of each month. Please call the Parish Office to make arrangements at 905-844-3303

confessionThe Church has called this sacrament the sacrament of penance, confession, forgiveness or reconciliation. We call it the sacrament of penance (a word meaning conversion) because it consecrates the individual sinner's and the Church's steps of conversion, penance and satisfaction. We call it confession because the telling of our sins to a priest is an essential part of the sacrament. The sacrament is also a wonderful confession - recognition and praise - of God's mercy to us. We call it the sacrament of forgiveness since God grants pardon and peace to sinners through the words of absolution. Finally, reconciliation means "coming back together". This term for the sacrament emphasizes our need to repair the harmed relationships with God and others that our sins have caused.

Our Grade Two children are prepared for their first Sacrament of first reconciliationReconciliation in the Catholic schools of the parish. Children attending private or public schooling are prepared either in the St. Andrew Monday evening catechism classes or through a correspondence course available from the School Sisters of Notre Dame. In addition, a parish program of preparation for the Sacrament is offered for all the candidates together with their parents. First Reconciliation Preparation date for 2009 is Saturday, January 31st at 10am

Reconciliations are regularly scheduled Saturday mornings after mass until 10am and any time by appointment.

first communionThe Eucharist is the central act of worship in the liturgical life of the Catholic Church. The celebration of the Mass is the best expression of the church's worship of God. Eucharist means "thanksgiving". It is the greatest means Christians have of thanking God the Father for the gift of his Son, Jesus Christ. In receiving Holy Communion, we receive the real presence of Jesus and so enter into an "intimate communion with God". Receiving one's "Solemn First Communion" is a highlight of a child's early faith life since from a very early age they have desired to receive Holy Communion.

confirmationConfirmation is a sacrament of initiation. Confirmation brings to completion the making of a Christian. It confers and seals the fullness of the Holy Spirit, strengthens us to live as Christians and deepens the power of the gifts received in Baptism. Adult converts are confirmed at the Easter Vigil liturgy immediately after their Baptism; Children who were baptized as infants are usually confirmed during Grade Eight.

Our Grade Eight children are prepared for the Sacrament of Confirmation in the Catholic schools of the parish. Children attending private or public schooling are prepared either in the St. Andrew Monday evening catechism classes or through a correspondence course available from the School Sisters of Notre Dame. In addition, a parish retreat day is offered for all candidates. Confirmation Parents Preparation date is Saturday, November 26th, 2011 at 10:00 am.

Confirmation Date for 2012: Saturday, March 31st 2012 at 10:30 am and 1:30 pm.

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) involves preparation for the sacraments of baptism, Eucharist and confirmation. This rite is a sacramental process for adults who are interested in our faith and who want to become part of our parish family. Initiation takes place at the Easter Vigil. For more information contact the parish office.

wedding ringsAll sacraments are signs of God's love and friendship; they are celebrations of his ongoing presence to us in our ordinary lives. Christians who marry in the Lord are a living sign of God's love in human relationships, in friendship, in life-giving procreation, in family living. A faithful marriage is a powerful sign to others. The Christian husband and wife point to the mystery of God's love at work in ordinary life. Their fidelity and exclusive love is an extraordinary sign to the world of God's fidelity and undying love for his people.

We are happy to witness the marriage of persons who live within our parish boundaries and who are registered as parishoners. Couples wishing to "celebrate their love" in marriage should contact the Parish Office (905-844-3303) at least 9-12 months in advance. A marriage preparation course is mandatory. A weekend marriage preparation course is available through our parish beginning in the fall and a 5-week session in the winter. With the assistance of other parish couples, various presentation are conducted through this program. More information will be posted in our Sunday Bulletin or you may call the Parish Office.

healing Jesus Christ is the healer. Jesus saw the hurting people in his midst and responded to them holistically, both to their bodies and spirits. Healing was a principle sign of the coming of God's kingdom. Jesus' healing ministry should be seen in the context of his forgiving sin and his proclamation of God's kingdom and the need for repentance. Jesus charge his disciples to continue his message and mission.

Today, the sacrament is administered not only to the dying but also to last ritesthose who are sick; it is administered with the laying on of hands, a biblical symbol of Jesus' touch and the outpouring of the Spirit of strength, love and forgiveness, together with the hold anointing with blessed oil. People are encouraged to request the sacrament during serious illness or before a serious operation.

The celebration of the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is offered publicly two or three times a year in the parish church.
