We have many ministries that provide spiritual as well as social activities in which to engage our parish community. Check them out!

Opus Dei (for Men & Women)

This group is open to all and is a personal prelature of the Catholic Church. Christians of all social classes are encouraged to live consistently with their faith, in the middle of ordinary circumstances of their lives, especially through the sanctification of their work. In order to fulfill this mission, the prelature offers spiritual formation and pastoral care to help its members and many others exercise the Christian virtues and working according to the spirit of Jesus Christ; that is, with the greatest possible competence, for the glory of God and the service of others, thus, contributing to the sanctification of the world, making the Gospel present in all human endeavours. Development and Peace

Development and Peace is a lay-led Canadian Catholic Organization. Canadian Bishops in response to poverty abroad created Development and Peace 36 years ago. The Bishops gave Development and Peace its dual mandate: To educate Canadians about poverty, and to raise money for the poor. The dual mandate of Development and Peace is realized through two annual campaigns: The Share Lent Campaign, and the Fall Education Campaign.

Homebound & Hospital Ministry

homebound ministryThe hospital visitation group visits members of our parish who are homebound or in the hospital. Each patient visited receives a prayer card with the name and telephone number of the parish. A visit lasts according to the needs of the patient. The parish visitor enquires whether the patient would like to receive the Eucharist or has any other special needs. Should you wish to become a visitor, please contact the parish office for further information.

Legion of Mary

The Legion of Mary is the largest apostolic organization of lay people in the Catholic church, with over 3 million active members in almost every country of the world. It has been active in Canada since 1934, has been endorsed by the last six popes, and was endorsed by the Second Vatican Council. The main purpose is to give glory to God through the sanctification of its members.

Members become instruments of the Holy Spirit through a balanced program of prayer and service. Works include door-to-door evangelization, parishioner visitation, visitation to the sick or aged, visiting newly baptized and First Holy COmmunion families and meeting other spiritual needs of the parish community.

Meets every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. downstairs in the Parish Centre.

 

Children's Liturgy

Children's LiturgyFor ages 4-9
Sunday mornings during 9am Mass, September to June.

The goal of children’s liturgy is to prepare children for regular mass. The first reading and Gospel are read, and then children are asked to tell us what they have heard. Children's intentions for our weekly song of prayer are invited. Children's Liturgy is held during Sunday 9:00 am mass for children 4-9 years; children are called to participate, by our celebrant priest following the opening procession. The children then proceed to attend instruction at our parish centre with the group leader; children return to join their families following the offertory. Altar Servers

This ministry recruits, trains and schedules our young parishioners to assist the Pastor and other celebrants in our celebration of the Eucharist on Sundays, major feast days, as well as other special occasions.

New servers are always welcome. Young people over the age of eight interested in joining this ministry are asked to contact the parish office for further information.

Altar Society...

This ministry ensures that the altars are appropriately dressed with linens and floral arrangements in keeping with the Liturgical Calendar. It launders and cares for the linens used during the celebration of the Eucharist and all the cloths for the altars. It also ensures that The Sacred Vessels are cleaned weekly. Anyone interested in participating in this ministry is asked to contact the parish office for further information.

Lectors, Ministers of the Word...

This ministry also complements and extends the ministry of the clergy. It recruits, trains and schedules ministers to bibleproclaim the readings from scripture and petitions at Mass and other liturgical celebrations. All ministers are accredited by the bishop for a renewable term of three years, based upon recommendations made by the Pastor. New ministers are asked to contact the parish office for further information.

Ushers...

This ministry recruits, trains and schedules ushers and greeters for Masses on Sundays and major feast days, as well as other special occasions, such as parish meetings, concerts etc. This ministry also ensures that the requirements needed for each Mass or occasion are set-up and in place, plus it distributes the bulletin after Sunday Masses.

 New ministers are always welcome and any interested person is asked to contact the parish office for further information.

Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist...

This ministry complements and extends the ministry of the clergy. It recruits, trains and schedules ministers to assist the celebrant in distributing the Eucharist at Mass and to those unable to attend church. This includes communion services in private homes, senior citizens residences and care facilities located within the boundaries of the parish, along with the hospital. Ministers also conduct communion services when asked to do so.

All ministers are accredited by the bishop for a renewable term of three years, based upon recommendations made by the Pastor. New ministers are always welcome and are asked to contact the parish office for further information.

Life in the Spirit & Prayer Group...

bibleThis ministry provides a way of deepening one's faith, one's life in Christ and learning to follow the Spirit's lead by developing the spiritual gifts and finding a support community that inspires and encourages walking with the Spirit of God. The meetings involve music, spontaneous prayer, sharing of faith experiences, testimonies of miracle, healing or freedom through the Spirit, Scripture reading, teaching, worship and the experience of the presence of the living God. Meetings are every Tuesday in the church starting at 7.30pm. For further information please contact the parish office.

Music Ministry...

Children's Choir

Children's Choir

This ministry encourages children between the ages of 6 and 17 to participate in the liturgy and in the church's cyclical year through the joy of singing. It is led by Diana Isherwood. there are no auditions and the children sing at the 9 am Mass. Children are also taught to proclaim the scripture readings. They perform at special events and secular functions. New members are always welcome.

Contemporary Choir

This ministry sings at the 5 pm Mass on Saturday evenings and focuses on a fun mix of different popular styles. The contemporary choir rehearses from 6:00 pm - 7:15pm on Thursdays. Instruments used are piano and guitars. New members both singers and instrumentalists are always welcome.  Please contact charles@masterworksofoakville.ca.

 Senior Choir

This ministry sings at the 10:30 am Mass on Sundays and on Holy Days. It rehearses from 7:45 pm - 10:00 pm on Thursdays. The music is a vide variety of styles from Latin chant to African-American Spirituals. New members are always welcome. Please contact charles@masterworksofoakville.ca.

Hospitality...

Our role is to provide a means by which members of the parish community can meet socially within the spiritual environment of the church of St. Andrew.hospitality

After all Masses on the third Sunday of each month, from September to June, we offer coffee and donuts to all who wish to join us.

We also have two social events, the parish BBQ in September and a pancake breakfast in February. These events are used as fund raisers to provide for the monthly coffee Sundays. Any remaining funds are used to purchase something for the church, for example, a coffee machine in the kitchen and new picnic tables. For more information please contact the parish office.

 

 

 

Catholic Women's League (CWL)...

CWL canadaThe Catholic Women’s League of Canada is a national organization rooted in gospel values calling its members to holiness through service to the people of God. It is the largest national organization of catholic women in Canada. The patroness of the League is the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title Our Lady of Good Counsel.

With a long history in St. Andrew our Council received its Charter in 1922, just two years after the League was organized nationally. Our Council initiated, or was involved in almost all the areas of the Parish and Community Life that now fall under the various ministries established at the time of the Parish Council. Members continue to serve in many of these ministries.

In the parish our Council supports awards to St. Thomas, St. Vincent and St. Luke, gifts of First Communicants and those being confirmed, remembrances to shut-ins at Christmas, sponsors annual seniors trip, a monthly coffee morning, holds an annual Carnation sale in aid of Pro-Life, among other things. In 2000, through the national organization, the Council contributed to help supply prayer books to all those attending the World Youth Day celebrations in Toronto.
Under our Constitution and Bylaws through various standing committees, members strive for spiritual, cultural and intellectual growth and the development of social action. Our Bishop is very supportive of the League in our Diocese and encourages all catholic women sixteen years and up to become members. There is a place for you in our Council. Friendship Group...

This ministry meets every Thursday afternoon in the Parish Centre. Its aim is to provide a social setting for conversation, companionship and afternoon tea. On occasion they plan trips to places of interest in the surrounding area. They will also place inserts in the Parish Bulletin when required. Anyone interested in joining should contact the parish office for further information.

Bridge...

Bridge players of all levels come to this drop-in-bridge for an enjoyable evening of cards, camaraderie, and light refreshments. For those players who come alone, a bridge partnership can easily be arranged for the evening. New players are always welcome, so please join us; play 20 hands; same partner all evening; after four hands, winners advance; admission $2. For more information, please contact the parish office.

Stitch & Chat...

The Stitch and Chat group welcomes those who want to bring their own stitchery, hose who just want to chat , and those who want to make knitted goods for Birthright and the Good Shepherd for distribution to the needy at Christmas. All the material for these projects are donated, and we thank all who have helped us in any way. For more information , please contact the parish office.

House Tour...

The St. Andrew House Tour was established more than 25 years ago in response to the need for alternative funding to meet the needs of the parish. The tour is held bi-annually with the most recent tour held on December 3, 2009. The funds are distributed one-third to the church, one-third to the Catholic Women’s League (CWL) and one-third to the community. Should you wish to participate in the 2010 tour, please contact the parish office for further information.

The Knights of Columbus began in 1882 when Father Michael McGivney of New Haven, Connecticut and a small group of pioneering Catholics founded a society designed to provide much needed security for widows and orphans of Catholic parishioners. Father McGivney’s original idea grew quickly, becoming an order of Catholic men and their families, dedicated to promoting the concepts of charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism. Today there are over 1.6 million members in over 10,500 local Councils in Canada, the United States, the Philippines, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Panama, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Guam and the Virgin Islands. The Knights stand for a world of good things. K of C programs and projects make a difference in every community and country where they are found. Outreach Program - St. Felix Centre...st felix centre, toronto

The St. Andrew’s Outreach Program to the St. Felix Centre was initiated in 1999 to help prepare and serve food to the needy in the west end of Toronto. We have 50 volunteers from the parish who are members of four groups A, B, C and D. Each group is on duty at the Centre every fourth Wednesday from approximately 9am to 1pm from September to May. The Centre serves approximately 75-100 meals per day. New volunteers are most welcome and are encouraged to contact the parish office for further information.

Lakeside Girls Club...

This girls club is open to all girls from Grade 3-8 interested in participating in a wide variety of activities such as community service, crafts, sports, outings, music and baking. The Girls Club is one of the many activities sponsored by P.E.V. – a non-profit organization Promoting Education and Values. The mission of P.E.V. is to equip women of all ages and backgrounds to increase their contribution within society at all levels: family, home, professional work and community action. Lakeside Girls Club is a personal initiative of parents open to members of our Oakville community with activities held monthly at our parish centre; our parishioners are also welcome to participate. St. Vincent de Paul Society...

The St. Vincent De Paul Society is an organization of lay people who respond directly to the needs of the underprivileged in our community. Although it is a Catholic, Diocesan based society, aid is given to people of all beliefs. The Society responds to emergencies and then strives to guide families towards better conditions in their daily lives. Vincentians provide support, understanding and information in addition to food vouchers, prescription drugs, baby formula, clothes, school supplies, furniture, transportation to the food bank, etc. To complete this work the Society relies on generous donations from parishioners. Parishioners are encouraged to also volunteer their time by contacting the parish office.

Kerr Street Ministries...

Kerr Street Ministry (KSM), a registered charity, is a Christian organization formed to assist the marginalized, the under-privileged and those in need in Oakville. KSM is located on Kerr Street and is currently providing a service of one nature or another to about 600 families. In addition to its drop-in centre and over 200 volunteers, it provides meals, a wide variety of programs for children, computer courses and advises on referrals, plus it collects and distributes food, clothing, small household appliances and furniture. St. Andrew's became involved in September of 2001 and is actively supporting many of the programs and, through its annual Thanksgiving food drive, is one of the largest donators of food to the centre. Parishioners are encouraged to remember them in their prayers and to support them whenever they can.
